Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE)
Dr Handrigan currently serves as the Director for TBI Clinical Standards of Care within the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1987 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Albany Medical College in 1992, followed by postgraduate training in emergency medicine at Brown University and a medical research fellowship with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.
His most recent positions include serving as the director for the Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Care Coordination Center and as a medical officer in the Center for Outcomes and Evidence with the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality. He is an emergency medicine physician with expertise in the science and practice of traumatic hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation. Prior to accepting a commission in the Public Health Service he worked for the United States Navy as a basic science and clinical researcher and as an active duty emergency physician and researcher for the United States Army.
