Dr. Eric Carbone, M.B.A., Ph.D.
Interim Director, Psychological Health Clinical Standards of Care Directorate
Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE)
Dr. Eric Carbone currently serves as the interim director of the Psychological Health Clinical Standards of Care (PH CSoC) Directorate at DCoE. In this role, he is responsible for several lines of business, including identification of evidence-based practices, development of clinical guidelines and tools, program evaluation, and consultation. Prior to taking his current position, Dr. Carbone was the PH CSoC deputy director. Dr. Carbone brings a broad array of clinical, consulting, management and research experience to the role.
Dr. Carbone has served in a variety of positions in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining DCoE, he was the manager of human capital strategy for the reimbursable services division of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Previously, he developed and managed OPM’s organizational development and performance management consulting practice, providing services to many federal agencies. He has also held mental health clinical and administrative positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he wrote a funded proposal to establish one of the initial outreach, education, and care programs for returning OEF/OIF veterans. Dr. Carbone has also served as an organizational psychologist in the private sector, conducting psychological assessment for candidate selection and leadership development in Fortune 500 companies.
Dr. Carbone began his career as an Air Force clinical psychologist and has published papers on topics such as predictors of attrition from military training, occupational stress, job satisfaction, personality-job congruence, and performance management. He has served as a faculty member in two psychology training programs accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
Dr. Carbone received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a Master of Business Administration in organizational behavior and management from the University of Georgia. Dr. Carbone is licensed as a psychologist in Georgia and holds a Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ) from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
