Navy Cmdr. Anthony Arita
Director, Clearinghouse, Outreach and Advocacy
Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE)
Having worked with a wide range of clinical populations with psychological health and neuropsychological concerns, Navy Cmdr. Anthony Arita brings broad experience to his role as director of the Clearinghouse, Outreach and Advocacy Directorate. Arita has consulted on issues related to intimate partner violence, personality disorders, suicide, and complex psychopathology requiring specialized psychological assessment. He has also provided consultation on threat assessment, counterintelligence, counterterrorism and criminal investigation cases.
Prior to joining DCoE, Arita served tours at Naval Medical Center, San Diego; Naval Medical Clinic, Pearl Harbor; National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.; and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He has served in temporary assignments at Detention Hospital, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and at Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan.
Arita was one of the first psychologists to be assigned to an aircraft carrier, USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), in 1998. Among his military awards are the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. Arita is a consulting editor for the professional journal, Psychological Services.
Arita completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at UCLA.
