Dr. Jay Uomoto, Ph.D
Deputy Director - Veterans Affairs,
Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE)
Dr. Uomoto currently serves as the DCoE Deputy Director - Veterans Affairs and is a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) liaison and senior consultant in traumatic brain injury. In his role at DCoE, Uomoto provides guidance on planning and direction to ensure effective operations, as well as analysis and evaluation of current and proposed joint DoD and VA programs for PH and TBI.
Dr. Uomoto received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington with distinction in psychology. He completed his master’s degree in theology at the Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Theology, where he also completed his doctorate in clinical psychology.
Prior to joining DCoE, Dr. Uomoto worked as the director of the Center for Polytrauma Care / VISN 20 Polytrauma Network Site of the Veterans Health Administration. He also served as chief, Division of Rehabilitation Neuropsychology at the Emory Healthcare Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, Crawford Long Hospital, Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital Medicine Unit, Atlanta, Ga.
Dr. Uomoto is a highly regarded medical educator, having taught more than 40 separate courses in psychology, produced 34 peer-reviewed articles, 17 book chapters, 13 abstracts, and published the book The Neuropsychological Evaluation in Vocational Planning.
