Col. Michael S. Jaffee, M.D., MC, USAF, FS
National Director, Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center
Col. Jaffee comes to DVBIC after serving as the Neurology Program Director/OIC, Neuropsychiatry at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland AFB, TX. Col. Jaffee has served as an Aerospace Neurology Consultant at the Aerospace Consultation Service/USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology and an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX as well as holding the position of Assistant Professor of Neurology/WMHC Neurology Clerkship Coordinator at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD.
Col. Jaffee holds a Medical Degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine and a Bachelor's in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
He has been the recipient of several honors and awards including the U.S. Surgeon General's Certificate of Appreciation (2003) for his outstanding presentation at the national annual meeting of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Col. Jaffee was one of four physicians selected from the Department of Defense to sit on the Department of Defense/Veterans Affairs Clinical Guidelines Development Panel for Use of Narcotics in Chronic Pain, and was one of the eight physicians selected from the Department of Defense to act as liaison to a Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program. He has been involved in extensive research in the area of Traumatic Brain Injury and is the author of several articles and papers on Neurology, including a recent article accepted for publication in the Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development entitled "The Biological Interface between PTSD and TBI."
During his deployment in Balad AB, Iraq, Col. Jaffee was the Chief of Medical Staff (SGH) and the Deputy Commander of Clinical Services (DCCS) at the Air Force Theater Hospital with the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group.
