Education Directorate

Mission:

To assess training and educational needs in order to identify, and promote effective instructional material for stakeholders resulting in improved knowledge and practice of psychological health (PH) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) care.

Overview:

The Education Directorate identifies, assesses, and promotes effective training and education in the areas of PH and TBI for a variety of audiences. The directorate supports the education of stakeholders identified as: healthcare providers, military leadership, family members, and communities focused on improving PH and TBI outcomes for Warriors. Within this role, the Education Directorate is responsible for:

  • Identifying and promoting PH and TBI training and education programs related to;
  • Coordinating the establishment of guidelines for PH and TBI training and education programs;
  • Assessing the impact of PH and TBI training and education programs; and
  • Influencing the development of educational standards and doctrine related to PH and TBI.


Goals and Objectives:

The goal of the Education Directorate is to promote improvement of training and education of PH and TBI stakeholders with a corresponding enhancement in outcomes for Warriors and their families. This will be accomplished by:

  • Identifying education and training programs related to PH and TBI;
  • Assessing PH and TBI programs for implementation throughout DoD and VA;
  • Establishing core components of PH and TBI education and training programs;
  • Coordinating and promoting the development of effective education and training programs, standards and doctrine;
  • Establishing standardized assessment guidelines for PH and TBI education and training programs;
  • Documenting lessons learned resulting in enhanced education and training program effectiveness;
  • Reviewing PH and TBI programs to determine appropriateness for DoD and VA; and
  • Providing technical assistance on the development of new programs where gaps exist or revision of established PH and TBI programs.


Functional Areas:

The Education Directorate is organized into three divisions: 1) Knowledge Management, 2) Curriculum and Guideline Coordination, and 3) Standards and Doctrine.

  1. Knowledge Management (KM): The KM Division identifies, maintains and makes publically available a repository of PH and TBI training and education programs and resources within federal and non-federal organizations. Additionally, the Division tracks and makes publically available PTSD training activities across the Services. Further, the Division coordinates the review and approval of all Education training products and coordinates with COA to disseminate products and content based on organizations such as the Federal Partners Work Group. The Division is responsible for managing DCoE-corporate CEUs, DCoE-tracked taskers, Review and Analysis, CONOPS, MOA/MOUs, and a tracking system of content and/or curriculum and the proposed timeframe in which to evaluate and/or assess for relevancy, impact and updates. The Division collaborates with Directorates and/or Centers to automate resources such as the Course Analysis Tool, which has been used to review and/or assess training courses, programs and resources.
  2. Curriculum and Guideline Coordination (C&G): The C&G Division focuses on training content coordination, curricula coordination, consultation and assessment. The Division develops and promotes guidelines for DoD and VA training and education programs regarding PH and TBI. The Division conducts Needs Analyses and/or Environmental Scans to 1) clarify the training requirements based on regulation, directive, clinical practice or stakeholder needs or 2) determine the specific training gaps that exist for a particular stakeholder or stakeholder group. The Division designs prototype(s) of the training for review and comment/approval. The Division coordinates the development and/or implementation of the training and offers consultation for the measurement of outcome measures of success. The Division facilitates and coordinates the development of guidelines for a variety of stakeholders to use as tools that improve the use and/or delivery of training content and curricula.
  3. Standards and Doctrine (S&D): The S&D Division will share information on regulations, directives and guidelines regarding the effective, efficient delivery of training courses and programs supporting the DoD, VA and other stakeholders. The Division will manage training conference/symposium content and speakers on behalf of DCoE in coordination with Directorates and Centers. The Division will collaborate with DCoE and external stakeholders to influence training and information for Leadership (Military and Civilian), Providers, Family, and Community stakeholder groups. The Division will collaborate with COA to coordinate and share content with stakeholder groups where there is already an existing MOA/MOU.
