Sesame Workshop Coming Home Special Available Online
April 7, 2009
The Sesame Workshop special “Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change” which aired April 1 on PBS is now available online at http://sesamestreet.org/tlc.
In the primetime special, Dr. Stephen Cozza, professor of psychiatry and associate director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, Child and Family Programs at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU), stars alongside actor/singer Queen Latifah, singer John Mayer, and Sesame characters Elmo and Rosita. The special carries a message for children whose parents, friends, or neighbors suffered a physical or psychological wound in combat.
The Sesame Workshop also created an informative kit in both English and Spanish to help parents talk to their children about the issues their families are facing because of repeated deployments and injuries. These kits are available to military families through Military OneSource and various military organizations. The Sesame Workshop Website also offers a variety of resources, including printed material, videos and music to help military families communicate about issues affecting them.
