1. What does NICoE stand for?
NICoE stands for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence.
2. What is NICoE?
The NICoE is a newly established treatment planning and research facility designed to provide cutting edge treatment planning, diagnosis, research and education for military personnel and their families dealing with recurring mild TBI and psychological health conditions.
3. Where is NICoE located?
The NICoE is located in Bethesda, Maryland on the campus of the National Naval Medical Center, which will become the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2011.
4. What is the NICoE Mission?
The NICoE mission is to be the leader in advancing world-class psychological health and traumatic brain injury treatment, research and education.
5. Is NICoE part of the Department of Defense?
The NICoE will operate under the Department of Defense.
6. Who funded the building and equipment for NICoE?
The National Intrepid Center of Excellence has been built and equipped through the philanthropic contributions of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
7. What is the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund?
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund was established in 2000 to provide financial support for the dependents of United States military personnel lost in performance of their duty. This continued an effort begun in 1982 by Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher, founders of the Intrepid Museum Foundation and the Fisher House Foundation.
8. Who will NICoE serve?
The NICoE will serve military personnel and their families who may be experiencing recurring mild TBI and PH conditions.
9. When will NICoE open?
The NICoE Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place on 24 June 2010. Initial Operating Capability is planned for fall 2010 and Full Operating Capability is planned for fall 2011.
10. What services will NICoE offer?
Serving as the hub of a public-private network of military and civilian local, regional, state, federal and global resources, the NICoE will provide holistic diagnostic assessments and develop treatment plans, clinician and warrior education programs, long term follow-up and continuity management in one central location.
