Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE) and the Building Bridges Collaboration to Highlight Psychological Health Resources for America’s Military
DCoE podcast underscores importance of psychological health diagnosis and treatment during Mental Health Awareness Month
More than ever, our nation’s military leadership recognizes the importance of protecting both the psychological and physical health of men and women serving in uniform. Psychological health issues can affect service members’ well-being and ability to function, and are often a source of confusion to family and friends who want to help. To advance awareness of psychological health resources available to the military and their families, the Building Bridges Collaboration recorded a podcast entitled “Healthy Minds Are Crucial for a Healthy Body” in conjunction with DCoE and dozens of other partners.
In support of Mental Health Awareness Month this May, the podcast highlights how DCoE is raising awareness of psychological health for our nation’s military. Brig. Gen. Loree K. Sutton, M.D. and Lolita O’Donnell, Ph.D., R.N., discuss DCoE and the first anniversary of the Real Warriors Campaign, an initiative promoting the processes of building resilience, facilitating recovery and supporting reintegration of returning service members, veterans and their families. Listeners will also find out how to participate in the Building Bridges Collaboration.
Access the podcast at www.dcoe.health.mil/MediaRoom to learn how to help service members, veterans, their families, their friends and the organizations that support them gain awareness about the many resources available for addressing psychological health issues.
The podcast is hosted by the Building Bridges Collaboration, a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary collaborative group whose purpose is to support the psychological health and traumatic brain injury needs of military and veteran families by building partnerships and networks, enhancing community capacity and developing tools and resources designed to support families. The Building Bridges Collaboration is facilitated by DCoE and a wide range of member organizations, including Department of Defense agencies, the National Guard and Reserve, federal partners, non-profit and service organizations, academic institutions and military families.
